On-board for a quick lap around the ‘Karting St-Alphonse’ circuit

Last Saturday, April 30th 2011, at Karting St-Alphonse near Granby. I think it was maybe the third time I raced there. I love this track! I really like how they changed the configuration of turn 5, where there are big ‘tractor wheels’ or something like that. I dunno if it’s a recent change or what, it had been a while since my last visit. But it’s now much faster there, chaining 4 & 5 flat out and then carrying all that speed onto the back stretch. Awesome! The whole track feels a lot like an european F1 circuit, with all the fast sweepers and elevation changes. That’s a lot more fun than the typical ‘intestinal layout’ type of track.

I think we managed to put down some decent laps. The fastest being the 59.774 shown in the video. The board said the fastest lap of the week was a 59.335, so I guess that’s ‘ok’. But compared to the track record of 57.420, we were quite off! I don’t really know where I lost the most time, I think maybe turn 2 is where I effed the lap, exiting too wide. I don’t know much about karting, so if you have any kind of advice or anything please let me know in the comments. I’m always looking forward to learning new tricks!

Fun karting race at Action500 Montreal

Fun times at Action500 Karting in Montreal this week with Rich & Ben. The fastest laps we did were in the 25.4x, a huge 2.4s behind the fastest lap of the week. There has to be something we don’t understand about karting. I have no idea how we’re supposed to shave over 2s off our laps.

The footage was shot on a GoPro HD camera.
